THOUGHTS ON BETRAYAL

By: The Right Reverend Father Michael D. Jordan

They came by night,

a devil’s flight;

eclipsed in darkness of body and soul,

they took our dear Savior away!

An evil side, puffed up with pride,

to this event did lead.

An outward kiss could not conceal

the serpent’s hiss in the turncoat’s evil deed!

For recognition of lawless men;

to conform with the social norm,

the Lord was by the betrayer forsaken.

From in the shadows where evil lurks,

a deal for silver was agreed and taken.

The false friend betrayed our Lord to lawless men,

who took our dear Savior away!

For of this world, the betrayer was,

who sold the Lord to sinners.

My Kingdom is not a Kingdom of this world,

our dear Savior to Pilate proclaimed.

For the ways of the world will perish,

like the betrayer with a halter hanged!

When power and greed

and personal need are placed in front of God,

it’s not God’s Kingdom you seek,

but an empire of evil, treachery and deceit.

And a field of blood is upon their heads

who do not place more importance on God than in man.

And from their own souls, so stripped by the fray,

they have taken our Dear Savior away!
